Job summary

Medical University of South Carolina seeks a phlebotomist to provide venipuncture and capillary services for patients across ages, following universal precautions and established lab procedures.

You will enter patient data accurately, manage specimens per guidelines, and help maintain supplies while adhering to quality control standards. Participation in trainings and committees is encouraged.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent is required.
• 0–6 months of work experience.
• Certificate of Phlebotomy preferred.
• State licensure and/or professional certification requirement depending on position.

Responsibilities

• Provide quality venipuncture or capillary service for patients of all ages with lab orders by a physician, while practicing universal precautions.
• Perform accurate data entry of patient demographic information and assays ordered into all computer applications.
• Properly process and handle specimens in accordance with MUSCP/MUSCP-PC or other reference laboratories guidelines.
• Maintain medical supplies in accordance with cost-effective parameters established by MUSCP/MUSCP-PC to perform job tasks.
• Responsible for decontamination of assigned areas and documenting the information.
• Attend in services and meetings and participate in committees and continuing education as requested.
