Job summary

MyMichigan Health seeks a qualified Medical Laboratory Assistant to support histology, cytology, microbiology and general laboratory tasks under supervision. You will handle specimen prep, testing, data entry and quality control in a fast-paced hospital lab environment.

The role requires a valid MLA credential or equivalent within 12 months, with experience in clinical labs and familiarity with LIS/HIS systems. Some positions may involve routine waived tests and specimen processing.

Qualifications

• ASCP MLA credential or equivalent required within 12 months.
• Education may be substituted by clinical lab experience per policy.
• Must meet ASCP/NAACLS education prerequisites.
• Experience with MISYS LIS, HIS and admitting policies preferred.

Responsibilities

• Executes waived testing and reports results.
• Prepares tissue specimens for histology/cytology and assists Pathologist.
• Prepares urine samples and sets up analyzers; monitors inventory.
• Prepares slides for microbiology; plates specimens and manages inventory.
• Maintains accurate temperature, QC and required records.
• Follows CLIA, CAP, and OSHA regulations.
