Job summary

MyMichigan Health is seeking a Laboratory Assistant (Medical Laboratory Assistant) to support pathologists and technologists by performing pre-, post-, and analytical tasks across histology, cytology, microbiology, and general lab workflows.

The role involves preparing specimens, data entry in LIS/HIS, processing waived tests, staining slides, and ensuring quality control while adhering to CLIA, CAP, and OSHA requirements.

Qualifications

• Experience in clinical or microbiology laboratory preferred.
• Must hold and maintain an active MLA certification or pursue one within 12 months of hire.
• Strong understanding of laboratory procedures and safety standards

Responsibilities

• Executes waived testing and reports results.
• Prepares tissue specimens and enters data into LIS.
• Prepares urine specimens and loads analyzers; monitors inventory.
• Stains slides for microbiology; assists with inventory management.
• Maintains records of quality control and specimen handling.
• Follows CLIA, CAP, OSHA regulations; ensures proper specimen identification and processing.
