Job summary

MyMichigan Health is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technologist/MLS to analyze biological specimens and manage daily workflows in the core laboratory. The role includes preparing reagents, performing QC, and reporting results via LIS and verbal communication.

The candidate must hold national certification (ASCP/AMT/AAB) or equivalent within 12 months of hire, be registered as MT/MLS, and maintain OSHA training. Experience with clinical testing and instrument troubleshooting is preferred.

Qualifications

• Must be registered as MT/MLS with the ASCP, NCA and/or HEW within 6 months of hire or transfer.
• Organizational skills needed to prioritize daily workload.
• Written and interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups.
• Basic knowledge of laboratory instruments needed to troubleshoot problems.
• Basic knowledge of personal computer for inputting patient information.
• Mandatory OSHA training must be completed annually according to the Exposure Control Plan.

Responsibilities

• Analyzes and processes biological specimens, organizes workload and sets-up test procedures.
• Evaluates appropriateness of patient and quality control results and enters into LIS, following critical notification policy when results meet criteria.
• Maintains inventory and reorders reagents; stocks shelves and disposes of biohazards safely.
• Maintains and troubleshoots instruments.
