Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a dedicated laboratory technician to support phlebotomy and specimen processing in our lab. You will collaborate with nurses and providers to ensure accurate data entry, proper specimen handling, and timely reporting of results.

Responsibilities include accepting specimens, operating LIS, performing waived or moderate complexity testing under supervision, and maintaining quality control. Minimum HS diploma and phlebotomy experience preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma and/or enrolled in a lab-related education program.
• Phlebotomy certification or formal training preferred.
• Experience in a general lab, specimen processing or phlebotomy setting is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with lab staff, nurses and providers to ensure excellent patient care.
• Receive specimens into the laboratory information system (LIS).
• Input and retrieve lab results in the hospital system.
• Register specimen drop-offs and ensure accurate data entry.
• Process specimens for transport to reference laboratories and distribute to testing areas.
• Maintain instrument quality control and troubleshoot as needed.
• Operate and maintain laboratory automation systems as appropriate.
• Perform diagnostic/analytic testing under supervision and report results to providers.
