Position Summary

This position assists technical lab staff, including collection, receipt, and processing of biological specimens, preparation of samples for testing, and may perform waived and/or limited moderate complexity testing if CLIA requirements are met or approved. Reports to department leadership and follows established policies, procedures, and standards.

Core Functions

• Process and prepare patient samples, ensuring correct identification and specimen integrity; perform waived and moderate complexity testing under supervision; maintain computer systems; track specimens; perform equipment maintenance; adhere to regulatory requirements.
• Ensure quality and accuracy of work; perform quality control; troubleshoot; document deviations; maintain specimen rejection rates.
• Manage departmental supplies and inventory; contribute to cost reduction and service improvement initiatives.
• Support departmental duties, including phlebotomy and training; update training documents as needed.
• Communicate professionally with internal and external customers; demonstrate good communication skills; participate in staff meetings.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent; 18+ years old if performing phlebotomy.
• Completion of career ladder requirements for progression.
• Possession or ability to obtain DHS Fingerprinting Certification.
• Valid state driver’s license and eligibility for company auto insurance.
• Phlebotomy/CLA certification as per state regulations.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous clinical laboratory experience.
• Completion of a laboratory assistant program.
• Knowledge of specimen handling and medical terminology.
• Additional relevant education or experience.
