JOB SUMMARY

The Nursing Professional Development (NPD) Practitioner is a Registered Nurse with NPD practice judgment and expertise who influences professional role competence and growth of learners. The NPD practitioner is responsible for supporting learners within the context and framework of the Nursing Professional Development, Scope and Standards practice as approved by the American Nurses Association.

This position works in collaboration with nursing leadership to foster and influence competency management, clinical nursing education, professional role development, policy standardization, collaborative partnerships, scientific inquiry, transition to practice, and onboarding/orientation of new Hartford HealthCare colleagues.

The practitioner is an essential member of the nursing leadership team who promotes the alignment of regional NPD and practice excellence with the HHC system as a whole.

Qualifications

• BSN required; enrollment in a Master’s program with degree completion within two years of hire preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years of active clinical nursing experience with at least 1 year in an acute care environment. Experience as a preceptor preferred.
• One year of relevant teaching experience preferred, especially in nursing professional development and/or specialty areas.
  Licensure, Certification, Registration:
  • Licensed Registered Nurse from the CT DPH obtained prior to hire date.
  • NPD or Clinical Specialty Certification within two years of hire/transfer.
  • BLS required.

• Ability to develop, deliver, and evaluate educational programs.
• Working knowledge of high reliability and LEAN process improvement strategies.
• Demonstrated leadership skills and a commitment to education as a methodology for promoting continuous quality improvement in patient care and services.
• Knowledge of principles and theories of adult learning.
• Knowledge of unit-based orientation plans.
• Strong skills in educational needs assessments.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Capable of working independently and collaboratively.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
