JOB SUMMARY

The Nursing Professional Development (NPD) Practitioner is a Registered Nurse with expertise in NPD practice judgment who influences professional role competence and learner growth. The NPD Practitioner is responsible for supporting learners within the framework of Nursing Professional Development, Scope, and Standards as approved by the American Nurses Association.

This role collaborates with nursing leadership to promote competency management, clinical education, professional development, policy standardization, partnerships, scientific inquiry, transition to practice, and onboarding of new Hartford HealthCare colleagues.

The practitioner is a vital member of the nursing leadership team, aligning regional NPD and practice excellence with the entire HHC system.


Qualifications
  • BSN required; enrollment in a Master’s program with completion within two years of hire preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of active clinical nursing experience, including at least 1 year in med-surg in an acute care setting. Experience as a preceptor is preferred.
  • One year of relevant teaching experience, nursing professional development, or specialty area experience is preferred.

Licensure, Certification, Registration

  • Licensed Registered Nurse from the CT DPH prior to hire.
  • NPD or Clinical Specialty Certification within two years of hire/transfer.
  • BLS certification required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to develop, deliver, and evaluate educational programs.
  • Working knowledge of high reliability and LEAN process improvement strategies.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and commitment to education for continuous quality improvement.
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles and theories.
  • Familiarity with unit-based orientation plans.
  • Strong skills in educational needs assessments.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and strong Excel skills.
