Job summary

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs in Kernersville, NC seeks a Dietitian (Clinical) at the full performance GS-11 level to serve as the medical nutrition expert in the Clinical Section of NFS.

The Dietitian works autonomously, applying evidence-based guidelines across complex cases to coordinate nutrition care. You will assess, diagnose, and treat Veterans using the Nutrition Care Process, document in the EHR, collaborate with the care team, and provide education.

Qualifications

• Must be a Registered Dietitian (RDN/RD) and registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).
• U.S. citizenship per VA policy.
• May qualify via Grandfathering provision for current VA employees.
• GS-11 requires 1 year of experience as an RDN/RD equivalent to GS-09 with NCP experience.
• Board Certified Specialist in Renal Nutrition preferred.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive nutrition assessments using the Nutritional Care Process (NCP) to establish nutrition diagnosis and malnutrition risk.
• Develop and implement Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) and monitor outcomes.
• Modify plans to achieve positive patient outcomes.
• Document MNT in the medical record using ADIME format.
• Collaborate with health care team and participate in interdisciplinary meetings.
• Provide nutrition education/counseling for Veterans and groups.
• Utilize virtual care technology to improve access to care.
