Job summary

Houston Methodist is seeking a Coding Quality Auditor to ensure accurate code assignment for diagnoses and procedures across inpatient and outpatient encounters, while maintaining compliance with regulatory guidelines. The role supports data integrity, revenue preservation, and ongoing quality improvement projects within the HIM department.

The ideal candidate has five years of coding experience in auditing, and holds RHIT/RHIA/CCS or CPC certification as appropriate.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or higher in HIT/HIM required or two years of additional coding experience in lieu of degree
• Five years of coding experience relevant to auditing (inpatient, outpatient, professional)
• RHIT/RHIA/CCS for inpatient/outpatient coding; CPC for professional fee coding
• Proficiency with electronic medical records and encoder applications
• Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology; AHIMA guidelines

Responsibilities

• Interacts with coding team, HIM, physicians, IT, and other departments to ensure accurate coding and data integrity.
• Participates in coding education, meetings, and performance improvement initiatives.
• Responds to coding/DRG requests promptly and supports MAC and AP DRG assignments and documentation training.
• Assists in quality assurance reviews and in developing documentation protocols as needed.
• Aggregates data from reviews and prepares reports for HIM management
