Description

The Department of Kinesiology and Nutrition at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) invites applications for a Clinical Assistant Professor faculty position in Nutrition. This non-tenure track faculty position will include teaching undergraduate and graduate-level nutrition courses. Additionally, this position will advise nutrition graduate students, including students completing a master's project.

The nutrition program at UIC offers degrees at the bachelor's, master's, and PhD levels. Our undergraduate Nutrition Science program includes students on track to become Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDN) and other health care practitioners (i.e., medicine, dental, pharmacy). Our mission for our diverse student population is to provide students with the skills and knowledge to be confident and competent in their dietetic internship or health program, to communicate and collaborate for human-centered care, and to have the preparation to advance health equity across diverse communities. Graduates will be lifelong learners who promote science-based practice to advance the field of nutrition and dietetics.

We offer several graduate-level options for our students. Our Standard Master’s Coordinated Program (MS/CP) is a 2 ½ year program for students with an undergraduate degree in a non-nutrition field who wish to become an RDN. Our 12-month Accelerated MS/CP is for graduates of our Nutrition Science program. The MS/CP includes the didactic coursework, a graduate degree in nutrition, and supervised practice needed to sit for the RDN exam.

The department has an award-winning teaching garden, which is incorporated into all our food courses, and a metabolic kitchen for conducting feeding trials. We are the only nutrition program in a Research 1 University in the Chicago area and are among the few US universities with the full range of health sciences colleges, which include the Colleges of Applied Health Sciences, Medicine, Nursing, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Social Work, and Public Health. These features attract many outstanding undergraduate and graduate applicants to our program.

Essential Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Campus and remote undergraduate and graduate course instruction.
  • Advise graduate nutrition students, including students completing a master’s project.
  • Assist with recruiting for the UIC nutrition programs.
  • Provide faculty mentorship and development, including research opportunities for students.
  • Involvement in clinical research.
  • Participate in scholarly activities, including community nutrition organization collaborations or invited workshops.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Interested candidates should submit PDF-formatted application materials, including a curriculum vitae. The candidate should also provide the names and contact information of three individuals who have agreed to provide letters of reference.

The budgeted salary range for the position is $85,000 - $90,000. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity.
