JusticePoint is seeking a Clinical Assessor to participate in the Dane County Treatment Court, OWI Court, and Diversion Programs in Madison, WI. The role involves conducting face-to-face assessments, generating detailed reports, and facilitating group therapy modalities to support individuals with mental health and substance use needs.

The ideal candidate holds a master’s degree in a related field, Wisconsin licensure, and experience with trauma-informed care.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree from an accredited school in Social Work, Counseling, or related field.
  • State of Wisconsin licensure options: LCSW, LPC, or LMFT or equivalent.
  • Experience with trauma-informed care and harm reduction approaches.
  • Experience with assessment tools and reporting requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct face-to-face substance use and actuarial risk assessments weekly at office and jail settings.
  • Enter assessments into the electronic database accurately and promptly.
  • Manage the assessment booking calendar to ensure efficient scheduling.
  • Provide written eligibility and recommendation reports to required parties.
  • Co-facilitate evidence-based groups (Seeking Safety, MRTP, Thinking for a Change, restorative justice) for clients with community service sentences.
  • Maintain up-to-date case records in the database.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors.

The Clinical Assessor plays a vital role in the Dane County Treatment Court, OWI Court, and Diversion Programs. This position involves utilizing clinical and actuarial risk assessment instruments to identify suitable individuals for program participation. The assessment results are critical for system decision makers in determining eligibility, assessing risk and need, and making treatment recommendations. The Clinical Assessor will generate comprehensive reports and communicate findings to relevant parties. This role requires effective management of the assessment schedule while ensuring accuracy and fidelity to assessment tools. Assessments will be conducted both in the office and at the Dane County Jail. Group facilitation will also be a significant responsibility for the individual working in this position. Group facilitation includes working with clinical team to be assured that the individual is in the most effective group therapy modality. The ideal candidate will demonstrate empathy and compassion, particularly when working with diverse populations experiencing mental illness and substance use disorders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct face-to-face substance use and actuarial risk assessments weekly for referred individuals, both in the office and at the Dane County Jail.
  • Enter completed assessments into the electronic database accurately and promptly.
  • Manage the assessment booking calendar to ensure efficient scheduling.
  • Make informed treatment and evidence-based programming recommendations based on assessment findings.
  • Provide detailed written eligibility and recommendation reports to required parties.
  • Co-facilitate evidence-based groups such as Seeking Safety, Moral Reconation Therapy, Thinking for a Change, and a restorative justice group for individuals who are sentenced to community service
  • Maintain up-to-date and accurate case records in the electronic database.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors to further the program’s mission.
Qualifications & Competencies
  • Minimum of a master’s degree from an accredited school in Social Work, Counseling, or related field
  • State of Wisconsin Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) OR State of Wisconsin Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) OR State of Wisconsin Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)
  • Must meet the requirements of DHS 75.03(85) as a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor, a Substance Abuse Counselor, Substance Abuse Counselor in Training, or MPSW 1.09 specialty: or be a physician knowledgeable in addiction treatment or a psychologist knowledgeable in psychopharmacology and addiction treatment.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience providing services to adults with significant mental health, substance abuse, or co-occurring needs
  • High level of mental health and substance abuse clinical knowledge and skills with the ability to clearly communicate these to others
  • Prior experience working with individuals from diverse economic, racial, and ethnic backgrounds
  • Previous experience working with criminal justice-involved clients preferred
  • Experience with Trauma-Informed Care and harm reduction approaches
  • Excellent assessment skills
  • High level of skill in organization, attention to detail and accuracy, and ability to handle multiple tasks at once
  • Ability to navigate and communicate effectively in potential emergency situationsAbility to promote positive working relationships with others
  • Excellent oral and written communication
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (including Outlook, Word, and Excel)
  • Pass a pre-employment background check
  • Valid driver’s license and automobile with insurance
  • Pre-employment background check and annual tuberculosis testing and flu vaccinations as required by Dane County
