Job summary

UnitedHealthcare is seeking a Clinical Operations Director - Clinical AI to lead clinical strategy for scalable AI solutions across inpatient, MCR, and appeals operations. You will translate clinical needs into AI opportunities, engage AIRB governance, and collaborate with product, tech enablement, and operations to drive enterprise-wide modernization.

The role requires licensed clinicians, 5+ years in related settings, and strong communication.

Qualifications

• RN, PA, NP, Pharmacist, MD, or other active clinical licensure
• 5+ years in health plan, provider org, payer-provider, or clinical operations enabling tech transformation
• Experience evaluating AI, automation, analytics, CDS, or workflow modernization
• Translate clinical problems into AI use cases, criteria, or measurable outcomes
• Knowledge of responsible AI principles, governance, model risk, privacy, compliance, regulatory impacts
• Support AI intake and prioritization with value statements, workflows, dependencies, AIRB readiness

Responsibilities

• Review and index emerging clinical AI ideas, use cases, and tools across inpatient, MCR, regulatory and appeals
• Partner with product, technology enablement, and operations to design scalable AI-enabled workflows
• Clarify clinical value, operational impact, risk, dependencies, and prioritization for AI initiatives
• Serve as clinical SME for AIRB board discussions on utilization management, inpatient review, MCR, and regulatory considerations
• Develop executive summaries, recommendations, and progress updates on AI opportunities and business impact
• Develop and deliver executive-level updates and department-level budget inputs
• Travel up to 10% as needed
