Job summary

Mercyhealth is seeking a Medical Assistant to join our busy clinic network. You will room patients, collect assessment data and prepare them for examinations, while assisting physicians with examinations, treatments, and basic laboratory tasks.

You will schedule appointments, enter them into the electronic scheduler, and make reminder calls to patients. You will maintain patient charts, coordinate referrals with insurers, and handle payments with receipts.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an ABHES or CAAHEP accredited medical assistant program, or an institutionally accredited program.
• Clinical experience preferred.
• Injection, specimen collection and phlebotomy training preferred.

Responsibilities

• Rooms patients, collects assessment data and prepares patient for examination or procedures.
• Assists physicians in examination, treatment and clinic procedures.
• Assists with laboratory procedures, screening tests and quality improvement projects.
• Answers telephone, directs callers or initiates triage slips for medical staff.
• Schedules appointments and records them in the computerized scheduler; conducts reminder calls.
• Greet and direct patients, salespeople and visitors; registers patients with up-to-date records.
• Updates patient charts in the computer system; coordinates referrals with insurers and other offices.
• Collects payments and issues receipts; maintains patient charts and orders supplies.
• Overtime may be required during peak periods.
