Job summary

Slingshot is seeking an experienced organizer to work with communities in Eastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island on climate and environmental injustice. You will join a growing organization, anchoring work in MA/RI, and build partnerships with community groups, partners, and funders.

As MA/RI Community Organizer, you will help deepen grassroots campaigns, facilitate workshops, and contribute to fundraising and strategic planning.

Qualifications

• At least three years of related work experience, such as community organizing or grassroots campaign coordination.
• Passion for organizing with people as means for change.
• Experience living in or working with frontline communities, especially people of color, Indigenous communities, immigrants, and low-income people.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills; enjoy building relationships.
• Strategic thinking and effective facilitation skills.
• Experience with leadership development, preferably training leaders in a grassroots setting.
• Experience with campaign planning and development.
• Commitment to racial, economic, and environmental justice and to working for a just, inclusive world.
• Flexibility and willingness to join a growing organization.
• Interest in non-hierarchical staff structures and shared responsibility.
• Driver's license, preferably with a car for work travel.

Responsibilities

• Community organizing workshops and leadership development through group workshops and one-on-one coaching, with virtual and in-person options.
• Campaign development and strategy, building relationships with leaders in impacted communities and researching local environmental threats.
• Communications and organizational visibility through local events, press releases, and online organizing.
• Fundraising: cultivate foundations, deepen donor connections, and participate in door-to-door canvassing and other tactics.
• Organizational development and participation in a three-year strategic plan, promoting equity in leadership and operations.
