Client Support and Transportation Specialist

Detroit Healthy Housing Center’s Client Support and Transportation Specialist is part of the Homeless Recovery Services team. The role involves working comfortably with individuals experiencing homelessness, requiring excellent communication skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office, and the use of a company vehicle. Responsibilities include providing transportation for clients to appointments and services, offering client support, and crisis intervention as needed. The specialist should work independently or as part of a team, maintaining positive interactions with clients, community partners, volunteers, and the HRS team.

Education, Licensure, and Experience Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• Valid Michigan chauffeur’s license; auto insurance required
• CPR/First Aid preferred
• One year of experience in human services is preferred
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and office equipment

Some Job Duties

• Primary driver for Detroit Healthy Housing Center, managing daily transports and special requests
• Engage with clients professionally to create a welcoming environment
• Assess client needs and serve as their advocate
• Support clients in achieving housing plan objectives
• Assist clients with disabilities during transfers and appointments
• Pick up donations, supplies, and meals for the center
• Load and unload supplies as needed
• Support other staff as assigned

Working Conditions and Capabilities

• Work in a homeless shelter setting, using office equipment
• Office and shelter environment with variable noise levels
• Require sitting, walking, standing, bending, and lifting at least 25 lbs
• Manual dexterity for operating keyboards and writing
• Continuous visual, speaking, and hearing abilities
