Merrimack Veterinary Hospital is a well-established 5‑doctor veterinary hospital offering care for feline, canine, and exotic pets 6 days a week.
We are seeking a friendly and enthusiastic front‑office team member. The role involves greeting clients and patients, answering phones, scheduling appointments, filling medications, and admitting and discharging clients. This is not a typical receptionist position – it requires a terrific people‑person who loves animals, is a strong multi‑tasker, and has outstanding customer service skills.
Responsibilities
- Greet clients and patients
- Answer phones and schedule appointments
- Fill medications and manage check‑in/check‑out for all clients
- Admit and discharge clients
- Handle money, write checks, and process samples
- Maintain cleanliness and pharmacy supplies
- Use Avimark software (previous experience preferred but not required)
- Collaborate with veterinarians, kennel staff, and groomers
Work Schedule
- Generally works weekdays with 1–2 scheduled Saturdays per month
- May need to cover weekends, holidays, or staff absences and emergencies
- Requires flexibility and cooperation with scheduling
Physical Requirements
- Lift up to 40 pounds safely
- Handle dogs, cats, birds, and pocket pets with confidence and safety
- Communicate effectively with staff and clients in person and via telephone
- Endure periods of heavy workload or high stress
- Tolerate high noise levels and strong/unpleasant odors
- Work with frequent interruptions
- Open and close the building independently
Qualifications
- Excellent customer service skills, sense of humor, strong work ethic to handle varying staff, client, and animal demands
- Excellent telephone skills including voicemail, call forwarding, and message taking
- Experience observing death, dying, and euthanasia in small animals
- Experience with Windows computer systems
- High school diploma required; courses in technician/reception training or equivalent welcome
