Data Solutions works with new customers to set up their data in Subscript and verify everything is correct!
Exciting update : We just closed our Series A a couple of months ago (see more details here). It's a really fun + empowering time to be joining our Subbie team!
The basics
- The product: We're building the premier metrics-first finance and billing platform that empowers B2B SaaS leaders to invoice their customers, tell their ARR story, and track accounting revenue, all in one place—regardless of how complex their customers' contracts are.
- The role you'll play on our team: You'll be the first point of contact for new customers after they've signed on to Subscript, working with them through complex, data-intensive implementations. You'll connect our new customers to their source data, help them clean and validate their data in Subscript, and perform analyses to maximize value.
- Over the course of each implementation, you'll work to get ARR metrics, invoices, and accounting revenue clean and complete, referencing clients' CRMs (e.g., Hubspot, Salesforce), general ledgers (e.g., Quickbooks, Xero), billing tools (e.g., Stripe, Maxio, Chargebee), and spreadsheets.
- The Subscript app acts as our de-facto ETL pipeline, which is highly customizable, involving working with an in-house transformation layer (built off of this NPM package) to configure our ingestion rules.
- You can expect to split your time across four main tools:
- 1. Spreadsheets - Transforming and cleaning clients' past data for ingestion into Subscript, and validating results.
- 2. Internal configuration JSON files - The transformation rules used for hooking up to external data sources.
- 3. SQL - To understand internal data after ingestion.
- 4. Postman / APIs - To fetch and explore external data (e.g., Hubspot deals or Quickbooks invoices) for ingestion into Subscript.
- Bonus: Python - While not strictly required, we occasionally use Colab notebooks for data fetching and transformation tasks that are challenging via other methods.
You'll be the seventh member of the Data Solutions team and will help define the role's evolution as we grow! You'll work closely with the entire company, including our co-founders Sidharth Kakkar and Michelle Lee, who previously built and exited a B2B SaaS company called Freckle Education. This is their second startup.
We're a young, lean company (current team under 30, growing quickly!), so you'll have significant influence on shaping and building our organization. You'll have a lot of autonomy to define and iterate on best practices and processes to help our customers and teammates succeed!
You will work directly with new clients and support other team members with their challenges, sharing your insights and experience.
Our way of working includes:
- Asynchronous communication: No scheduled internal meetings; most communication is through written documentation, Slack channels, and video recordings. If you prefer to avoid pointless meetings, this is ideal!
- Complete autonomy: No one will tell you what to do; you'll have transparent context and company goals, and you'll determine how to work towards them.
- Remote work: Work from anywhere, but with substantial overlap in US-Pacific hours to coordinate with clients worldwide.
- A team that loves working together: We enjoy playing board games synchronously and meet in person multiple times a year for team retreats (expenses paid!).
Regarding our interview process, it emphasizes your analytical intuition and communication skills, primarily conducted asynchronously:
- Spreadsheet task simulating customer data work, with opportunity for questions.
- Short live call to discuss your background, goals, and working style.
- Asynchronous SQL exercise (Postgres) to demonstrate database skills.
- Preparation and leadership of a live kickoff call with a mock customer role.
- Optional informal chat with a cofounder to get to know us better.
Our ideal candidate loves data—analyzing, discussing, advising customers using it! Essential requirements include:
- Experience requesting and reading JSON data from APIs.
- Satisfaction in cleaning data to perfection.
- Mastery of SQL.
- Understanding of B2B SaaS business models.
- Ability to work US-Pacific hours.
- 5+ years of relevant experience.
Preferred but not required skills:
- Comfort with Python.
- Experience with general ledgers like Quickbooks, Xero, Netsuite.
- Familiarity with CRM software such as Hubspot and Salesforce.
Additional benefits include:
- Unlimited vacation.
- Flexible work schedule and location.
- Location-appropriate benefits (health/dental/vision in the USA).
- Company retreats multiple times per year, all expenses paid.
