Job summary

VHB seeks a Land Development Project Manager to join our team in Williamsburg or Richmond, VA. You will lead civil engineering design and land development projects, partner with clients and stakeholders, and deliver high-quality design and permitting materials from concept through construction.

You’ll manage client relationships, coordinate with internal teams, and mentor junior staff while ensuring compliance with Virginia codes and standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
• 8+ years of progressively responsible experience in land development engineering.
• Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Virginia or ability to obtain within 6 months.
• Strong proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D and Microsoft Office; experience with Microsoft Project and GIS software is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage civil engineering design and land development projects, including site layout, grading, utility design, and stormwater management.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, regulatory agencies, and project stakeholders, fostering strong relationships and ensuring client needs and expectations are met.
• Prepare, review, and approve design plans, specifications, construction documents, and permitting materials.
• Coordinate project tasks with internal teams, consultants, and contractors during design and construction phases, including responding to contractor questions and reviewing submittals.
• Develop proposals, budgets, and project schedules; support business development efforts and client presentations.
• Provide mentorship and guidance to junior team members, promoting professional growth and quality standards.
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and standards, with particular knowledge of Virginia market and development codes.
