Job summary

VHB in Richmond/Williamsburg is hiring a Senior Land Development Project Manager to lead complex site/civil projects, collaborating across disciplines on industrial, biotech, institutional and residential developments. You will drive client relations, manage budgets, supervise design teams, mentor junior staff, and navigate regulatory approvals and permitting.

Candidates should have a BS in Civil Engineering, Virginia PE or be eligible, 11+ years of experience, and a proven record delivering

Qualifications

  • BS in Civil Engineering or related degree.
  • 11+ years of increasing engineering experience on complex projects.
  • PE licensure in Virginia or obtain within 12 months.
  • Proficient in site layout, grading, utility design and stormwater management.
  • Experience in leading and developing project teams for successful delivery.
  • Familiarity with I-64 and Virginia market.

  • Collaborate with project managers, staff, and CAD operators to meet high performance standards.
  • Develop and/or support site/civil plans for large-scale projects (industrial, biotech, institutional, healthcare, residential).
  • Responsible for project financial performance and client relations.
  • Prepare and review drawings and specifications documenting the systems designed.
  • Attend meetings with clients, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders to discuss needs and permitting issues.
  • Supervise design team activities and manage junior staff.
  • Manage small, medium and/or large projects; develop new opportunities.

ABOUT THE POSITION
Senior Project Manager - Land Development

VHB's I-64 Team is seeking a Senior Land Development Project Manager to join our growing Land Development team. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a dynamic team, across diverse disciplines, giving you exposure to a wide variety of projects in size and scope. Our past and present clients include commercial and residential; industrial; hospitality including amusement parks; municipal and local government; federal agencies including the National Park Service, Army Corps. of Engineers, and Forest Service; and private interests throughout the eastern United States.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with engineering project managers, engineering staff, and CAD operators to meet high performance standards for quality plans, superior financial performance, and employee growth
  • Develop and/or support development of site/civil engineering plans and specifications for a multitude of projects, including large-scale industrial developments, biotech, institutional, healthcare and residential
  • Responsible for project financial performance and client relations
  • Prepare and review drawings and specifications documenting the systems designed
  • Attend meetings with clients, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders to establish their needs and discuss design/permitting issues with them
  • Supervise design team activities
  • Manage work and development of junior-level staff
  • Manage small, medium and/or large projects
  • Develop new project opportunities and manage proposal submissions
Skills and Attributes
  • Highly proficient in the following: AutoCAD Civil 3D, Microsoft Project, MS Office. ArcGIS skills highly desirable
  • Skills to implement the integrated services approach with collaborative coordination between multiple disciplines within VHB and external project teams.
  • Comprehensive understanding of design, details, and construction drawing preparation including site layout, grading, hardscape, drainage, and planning.
  • Knowledge of land development construction including codes and development regulations
  • Experience with green initiative programs and low-impact design (LEED, Envision)
  • Project research and analysis skills, including due diligence and regulatory process mapping
  • Strong, creative engineering skills and ability to adhere to office standards
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Self-motivated, attention to detail, ability to think critically and multitask
  • Excels at working in a team environment, including hybrid team members
  • Exhibits strong leadership skills and growth potential
  • Demonstrated business development skills or interest in growing business development skills

The full-time annual base salary range for this position is $132,000 to $180,000 if located in Virginia. The base salary offered will be determined based on job-related factors, including geographic location, internal equity, experience, credentials, skills, education, work schedule, and other factors permitted by law. The posted salary range reflects base pay only. Additional compensation and benefits available to eligible employees are outlined in our Total Rewards Program.

Annual base salary is one component of VHB's Total Rewards package. In addition to base pay, eligible employees may receive annual incentive compensation bonuses, spot bonuses, and merit-based salary increases, providing opportunities to increase earnings beyond base pay.
