Overview

Step Finance is the front page of Solana, a portfolio manager and aggregator for all Dapps and smart contracts across the Solana ecosystem. We’re seeking a ClickHouse Database Expert to supercharge our analytical data infrastructure. You’ll play a critical role in optimizing our ClickHouse environment to handle complex aggregations, high-speed ingestion, and lightning-fast queries that power our DeFi analytics platform. This is an exciting opportunity to join a core Solana DeFi team and work on cutting-edge database challenges in the decentralized finance space.

You’ll collaborate with a world-class team of crypto natives, leveraging your ClickHouse expertise to unlock new levels of performance and scalability for our portfolio aggregator and data analytics.

What You’ll Do

• Design and optimize complex aggregations in ClickHouse materialized views to support real-time DeFi analytics.
• Build and maintain high-speed data ingestion pipelines for streaming and batch data from Solana and other sources.
• Perform query optimization to ensure low-latency access for analytical workloads.
• Partner with developers to analyze query patterns, optimize SQL, and propose data denormalization or pre-aggregation strategies to accelerate analytical access.
• Manage backup and restore processes for ClickHouse environments, ensuring data reliability and minimal downtime.
• Monitor and tune ClickHouse clusters for performance, scalability, and fault tolerance.
• Troubleshoot ingestion and query performance issues, delivering robust solutions under tight timelines.
• Explore and implement advanced ClickHouse features like tiered storage, distributed joins, custom codecs, or dictionary tables to push the boundaries of our analytics capabilities.
• Spend most of your (work)day solving database challenges… on your schedule!

What You Bring

• Proven expertise with ClickHouse in a production environment, including materialized views and complex aggregations.
• Strong experience with high-speed data ingestion (e.g., Kafka, REST APIs, or ETL pipelines) into ClickHouse.
• Deep knowledge of query optimization and performance tuning for analytical databases.
• Ability to collaborate with developers to refine queries and improve data models (e.g., denormalization, aggregation).
• Hands-on experience with ClickHouse backup, restore, replication, and cluster management.
• Comfort making technical decisions with minimal oversight.

Bonus Points If You Have…

• Experience with DeFi or blockchain data analytics (e.g., Solana, Ethereum).
• Familiarity with integrating ClickHouse with BI tools (e.g., Superset, Grafana) or visualization platforms.
• Typescript knowledge for occasionally getting your hands dirty and fixing/implementing code.
• Prior work with other analytical databases (e.g., Druid, Pinot, Snowflake).
