Job summary

Lamar Consolidated ISD is seeking a Payroll assistant to help administer payroll functions. The role emphasizes confidentiality and professional image, with duties including processing timecards and ensuring attendance accuracy in UKG for all employees.

The position supports the Payroll Specialist-Instructional in payroll processing, maintains district records, and handles overpayments and reporting related to timekeeping.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of payroll and accounting procedures including federal and state laws pertaining to the process.
  • Knowledge of Federal Wage and Hour laws.
  • Ability to exercise independent decision making.
  • Ability to stay informed of new rules and regulations as relating to the payroll function.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and courteously with district personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Process timecards/timesheets.
  • Ensure accuracy of attendance records (UKG) for all employees for compliance with Federal Wage and Hour Laws.
  • Assist Payroll Specialist-Instructional with the processing of payroll.
  • Maintain records per the District’s record retention schedule.
  • Maintain overpayment spreadsheet and issue overpayment letters.
  • Process and review bus trip information.
  • Assist with the training of all campus and departmental staff responsible for time keeping procedures.
  • Maintain spreadsheet for sick leave bank as per board policy.
  • Serve as back up in the absence of other departmental staff.
  • Maintain confidentiality of department information.
  • Attendance at work is an essential function.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Payroll Coordinator or designee.

Education

High school diploma
15 college hours or three years of administrative assistant experience

  • Perform all job duties in a confidential and responsible manner, demonstrating good judgment.
  • Respond to general employee inquires and further direct specific inquires to appropriate staff.
  • Process timecards/timesheets.

EXPERIENCE
  • Accounts payable experience preferred
QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma
  • 15 credited college hours or three years of experience as an administrative assistant or similar office experience preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills
  • Knowledge of payroll and accounting procedures including federal and state laws pertaining to the process
  • Knowledge of Federal Wage and Hour laws
  • Ability to exercise independent decision making

OTHER INFORMATION
Equipment Used

Computer for specialized data entry, word processing, spreadsheet applications, printer, typewriter, copy machine, calculator, telephone, check sealer/mailer.

Working Conditions
Mental/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors

Light lifting and carrying (under 15 pounds), use of fingers, walking, specific visual requirements (using computer), specific hearing requirements (telephone conversations).
