Job summary

Norman Regional's Laboratory Outreach Service Center seeks a motivated phlebotomist to support admission interviews, specimen collection, and patient inquiries. You will ensure Medicare and insurance requirements are met before registration, perform blood draws, EKGs, urine collection, and related laboratory tasks.

Preferred candidates have a phlebotomy certificate or 6 months of medical field experience, plus a valid Oklahoma driver’s license and BLS certification.

Qualifications

• Minimum three months customer service experience.
• Phlebotomy experience required; may substitute for customer service experience.
• Phlebotomy certificate or 6 months in medical field with blood draws.
• BLS training or re-training required during orientation.
• Oklahoma driver license with clean record preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs admission interview process at the Laboratory Outreach Service Centers or uses information provided by outreach clients at the time of specimen collection or pickup.
• Ensures that all Medicare, insurance and managed care requirements are met prior to the registration process.
• Responds to inquiries regarding patients.
• Obtains blood specimens (on or off site) following established procedures, time frames, and safety requirements.
• Obtains specimens requiring special collection procedures following established procedures, time frames, and safety requirements.
• Performs diagnostic electrocardiogram on outpatients and Therapeutic INR QC and testing procedures.
• Urine collection and processing.
• Specimen collections other than blood or urine.
• Assists in the laboratory area.
• Acts as a resource for Laboratory information.
• Maintains up-to-date knowledge of insurance regulations and Medicare requirements.
• Order and maintain supplies at PAR level.
• Proper Phone Etiquette.

Qualifications

Education

• High school education or equivalent GED.
• Requires some knowledge of medical terminology.
• Skill in use of computers including word processing.

Experience

• Requires three months customer service experience.
• Requires experience as a phlebotomist.
• Experience as a phlebotomist may be substituted for Customer Service experience.
• Phlebotomy experience is 3 months phlebotomy experience, or a Clinical Phlebotomy certificate, or 6 months experience in a medical field providing patient care which includes drawing blood.
• The Phlebotomy Certificate must include a minimum of 32 hours of a clinical rotation.

(Above requirements can be met by equivalent combination of education and experience)

Licensure/Certification

• Basic Life Support (BLS) training or re-training is required during orientation prior to providing patient care.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) is required to be maintained thru re-training for duration of employment.
• Outreach employees must have a Valid Oklahoma State Driver’s license with less than 3 points on his/her record if being hired into department # 40110.
• MVR must meet NRHS MVR policy criteria or Defensive Driving must be taken.

Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

• Prefer 1 year of experience in a medical setting.

Compensation/Benefits

• $16.72-$27.30/hr depending on previous work experience.
