Job summary

Norman Regional Health System's Laboratory seeks a detail-oriented Phlebotomist to obtain blood specimens in inpatient and outpatient settings. You will perform ECG on outpatients, urine processing, and train Lab Assistants, while maintaining QC and safety requirements.

Schedule: Mon-Thu 1000-1930, Day shift; Regular Full Time with competitive pay and benefits. Requires high school diploma or GED and knowledge of medical terminology; 1 year phlebotomy or patient-care experience; BLS required.

Responsibilities

  • Obtains blood specimens in inpatient and outpatient settings following established procedures, time frames, and safety requirements.
  • Obtains specimens in inpatient/outpatient settings requiring special collection procedures following established procedures, time frames, and safety requirements.
  • Performs diagnostic electrocardiograms on outpatients and Therapeutic INR QC/testing procedures.
  • Performs urine collection and processing.
  • Collects specimens other than blood or urine.
  • Labels, receives, and distributes specimens in the laboratory.
  • Trains Lab Assistants.
  • Ensures QC, maintenance, and performance improvement indicators are documented.
  • Assists supervisor and coordinator with general management functions.
  • Orders supplies and equipment for the section, mindful of expiration dates and quantities.

Job Summary

Education

Experience
  • 1 year of phlebotomy experience or 1 year of experience in a medical field providing patient care (such as a nursing assistant, medical assistant, nurse technician, etc.) which included drawing blood.

(Above requirements can be met by equivalent combination of education and experience)

Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) training or re-training is required during orientation prior to providing patient care.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) is required to be maintained thru re-training for duration of employment.
Compensation/Benefits
  • $16.07-$26.25/hr depending on previous work experience.
