Job summary

Norman Regional is seeking a dedicated phlebotomist to join our community-focused laboratory team. You will perform admissions interviews, collect blood and urine samples, and ensure insurance requirements are met before registration.

You will also respond to patient inquiries and assist with laboratory procedures and ECG/INR testing in a high-volume setting. The role requires a phlebotomy certificate or equivalent, basic medical terminology knowledge, and computer literacy.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED; knowledge of medical terminology; basic computer skills (word processing).
  • Medical terminology knowledge required.
  • Proficiency with basic computer applications (word processing).

Responsibilities

  • Perform admission interview process at outreach centers or using client information at specimen collection.
  • Ensure Medicare, insurance and managed care requirements are met prior to registration.
  • Respond to inquiries regarding patients.
  • Obtain blood specimens (on or off site) following established procedures and safety rules.
  • Obtain specimens requiring special collection procedures.
  • Perform diagnostic electrocardiograms and INR QC testing.
  • Collect and process urine samples; assist in the laboratory area.
  • Provide Laboratory information and maintain knowledge of insurance regulations.

Job Summary
  • Performs admission interview process at the Laboratory Outreach Service Centers or uses information provided by the outreach clients at the time of specimen collection or pickup.
  • Ensures that all Medicare, insurance and managed care requirements are met prior to the registration process.
  • Responds to inquiries regarding patients.
  • Obtains blood specimens (on or off site) following established procedures, established time frames, and safety requirements.
  • Obtains specimens (on or off site) requiring special collection procedures following established procedures, established time frames, and safety requirements.
  • Diagnostic electrocardiogram on outpatients and Therapeutic INR QC and testing procedures.
  • Urine collection and processing.
  • Specimen collections other than blood or urine.
  • Assists in the laboratory area.
  • Acts as a resource for Laboratory information.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of insurance regulations and Medicare requirements.
  • Order and maintain supplies at PAR level.
  • Various Laboratory Requirements
  • Proper Phone Etiquette.
Qualifications
Education
  • High school education or equivalent GED.
  • Requires some knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Skill in use of computers including word processing.
Experience
  • Requires three months customer service experience.
  • Requires experience as a phlebotomist.
  • Experience as a phlebotomist may be substituted for Customer Service experience.
  • Phlebotomy experience is 3 months phlebotomy experience, or a Clinical Phlebotomy certificate, or 6 months experience in a medical field providing patient care which includes drawing blood.
  • The Phlebotomy Certificate must include a minimum of 32 hours of a clinical rotation.

(Above requirements can be met by equivalent combination of education and experience)

Licensure/Certification
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) training or re-training is required during orientation prior to providing patient care.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) is required to be maintained thru re-training for duration of employment.
  • Outreach employees must have a Valid Oklahoma State Driver’s license with less than 3 points on his/her record if being hired into department # 40110.
  • MVR must meet NRHS MVR policy criteria or Defensive Driving must be taken.
Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Prefer 1 year of experience in a medical setting.
Compensation/Benefits
  • $16.72-$27.30/hr depending on previous work experience.
