Job summary

Norman Regional is seeking a detail-oriented phlebotomist to support a fast-paced laboratory. You will perform admission interviews, collect specimens, and ensure Medicare/insurance requirements are met during registration.

You will respond to patient inquiries, handle blood draws, urine collection, ECGs and INR testing, and assist in the lab while maintaining regulatory knowledge. Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, knowledge of medical terminology, and at least 3 months of

Qualifications

  • High school education or equivalent GED.
  • Requires some knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Skill in use of computers including word processing.
  • Requires three months customer service experience.
  • Requires experience as a phlebotomist; substitution allowed with customer service.
  • Phlebotomy certificate must include a minimum of 32 hours of clinical rotation.

Responsibilities

  • Performs admission interview process at Laboratory Outreach Service Centers or uses information provided at specimen collection.
  • Ensures all Medicare, insurance and managed care requirements are met prior to registration.
  • Responds to inquiries regarding patients.
  • Obtains blood specimens (on or off site) following established procedures.
  • Obtains specimens requiring special collection procedures.
  • Performs diagnostic electrocardiogram on outpatients and INR QC/testing.
  • Urine collection and processing; specimen collections as needed.
  • Assists in the laboratory area and serves as a resource for Laboratory information.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of insurance regulations and Medicare requirements.

Job Summary
  • Performs admission interview process at the Laboratory Outreach Service Centers or uses information provided by the outreach clients at the time of specimen collection or pickup.
  • Ensures that all Medicare, insurance and managed care requirements are met prior to the registration process.
  • Responds to inquiries regarding patients.
  • Obtains blood specimens (on or off site) following established procedures, established time frames, and safety requirements.
  • Obtains specimens (on or off site) requiring special collection procedures following established procedures, established time frames, and safety requirements.
  • Diagnostic electrocardiogram on outpatients and Therapeutic INR QC and testing procedures.
  • Urine collection and processing.
  • Specimen collections other than blood or urine.
  • Assists in the laboratory area.
  • Acts as a resource for Laboratory information.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of insurance regulations and Medicare requirements.
  • Order and maintain supplies at PAR level.
  • Various Laboratory Requirements
  • Proper Phone Etiquette.
Qualifications
Education
  • High school education or equivalent GED.
  • Requires some knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Skill in use of computers including word processing.
Experience
  • Requires three months customer service experience.
  • Requires experience as a phlebotomist.
  • Experience as a phlebotomist may be substituted for Customer Service experience.
  • Phlebotomy experience is 3 months phlebotomy experience, or a Clinical Phlebotomy certificate, or 6 months experience in a medical field providing patient care which includes drawing blood.
  • The Phlebotomy Certificate must include a minimum of 32 hours of a clinical rotation.

(Above requirements can be met by equivalent combination of education and experience)

Licensure/Certification
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) training or re-training is required during orientation prior to providing patient care.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) is required to be maintained thru re-training for duration of employment.
  • Outreach employees must have a Valid Oklahoma State Driver’s license with less than 3 points on his/her record if being hired into department # 40110.
  • MVR must meet NRHS MVR policy criteria or Defensive Driving must be taken.
Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Prefer 1 year of experience in a medical setting.
Compensation/Benefits
  • $16.72-$27.30/hr depending on previous work experience.
