Job summary

Steele Memorial Medical Center in Salmon, Idaho is seeking a detail-oriented Medical Records Clerk to join our team. This is a non-remote, on-site role rooted in rural Idaho living and patient-centered care.

You will handle records release, filing, scanning, EMR tasks, and ensure accuracy of medical information. High school diploma and some related experience are required; familiarity with medical terminology is preferred.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma and at least one year related experience.
  • Medical Terminology knowledge is preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents and write routine reports.

Responsibilities

  • Release patient records to qualified requestors per regulations.
  • Sort, file, scan and collate medical record information.
  • Work deficiency analysis queues with providers.
  • Prepare records for scanning into the medical records system.
  • File and retrieve records; research lost or missing records.
  • Work in EMR queues to maintain data integrity.
  • Answer telephone requests for medical records.
  • Deliver records to departments upon request.
  • Purge files per retirement schedule or legal requirements.
  • Scan materials and ensure legibility.
  • Create labels or reports.
  • Review Department Policies and Procedures.

Duties/Responsibilities

Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Release patient records to qualified requestors in accordance with regulations and institutional policies.
  • Sort, file, scan and collate a variety of medical record information into medical records in appropriate sequence and in accordance with established procedures.
  • Responsible to work deficiency analysis work queues and work with providers regarding deficiencies.
  • Sort, file, and collate a variety of medical record information and prepare them to be scanned into medical records system in accordance with established procedures.
  • File and retrieve medical records in accordance with established filing system; research lost or missing records.
  • Work in assigned work queues in EMR to maintain medical record information integrity.
  • Answer telephone and take requests for medical records or information.
  • Deliver patient medical records to qualified personnel and departments upon request.
  • Purge files in accordance with established retirement schedule or legal requirements.
  • Scan materials or copy records, and examine materials for legibility.
  • Create labels or reports.
  • Review Department Policies and Procedures and other communications as required.

Education And/or Experience

High school diploma and at least one year related experience and/or training. Medical Terminology desired.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Other Skills And Abilities

Knowledge of basic filing systems, ability to work independently and accurately, ability to operate designated computerized information system. Ability to prepare documents for scanning and quality check the results.
