Responsibilities
- Possess a basic understanding of nursing principles.
- Participate in and receive the nursing report from licensed staff while maintaining the patient’s privacy and dignity; assist with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, grooming, dressing, and toileting.
- Help patients with mobility, transferring them safely in and out of beds, chairs, and wheelchairs.
- Measure and record vital signs, such as temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure, and report any abnormalities to the patient’s primary nurse.
- Monitor patients for changes in condition and report observations or any refusal in care directly to the primary nurse and charge nurse.
- Assist in documenting patient care activities and responses in medical records.
- Assist patients with feeding and hydration, ensuring dietary restrictions are followed.
- Help set up meal trays and assist during mealtimes.
- Ensure patient rooms are clean, organized, and free of hazards.
- Follow infection control protocols and ensure proper sanitation practices.
- Collaborate with the nursing team to deliver comprehensive patient care.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to the development of patient care plans.
- Act as a patient advocate by providing companionship and emotional support during the hospital stay.
- Use the nursing process to assess, plan, and evaluate patient care in collaboration with the RN/LPN; provide nursing care in accordance with the RN with consideration of physical, psychosocial, cultural/spiritual, and age‑specific needs.
- Demonstrate appropriate use of equipment/supplies and safety and infection control measures.
- Teach, direct, advise and inform others in an appropriate manner under supervision of an RN.
- Report and record information legibly and appropriately.
- Collect specimens: urine, stool, sputum; perform finger stick blood sugar specimen and EKG testing.
- Make decisions within the scope of practice for the nursing assistant and according to established hospital policies and procedures.
- Additional duties may be assigned as needed by supervisor.
Qualifications
The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of an Idaho State approved nursing aide training program (CNA Certification) upon hire or within six (6) months of hire date.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required upon hire.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team‑oriented environment.

- Completes requirements for in‑service training, acceptable attendance, uniform and dress codes including personal hygiene, and other work duties as assigned.
