Job summary

Genesee County Health Department is seeking a qualified clerical and medical billing specialist to join our team. The role focuses on coordinating clerical and billing activities, including registration and training of staff, with an emphasis on accuracy and confidentiality.

Responsibilities include supervising clerical/billing staff, preparing reports, and assisting providers with billing codes and modifiers using EPIC, CHAMPS and NextGen in an on-site environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Four (4) years of clerical experience and ability to type 30 net words per minute.
• One (1) year of experience with medical billing software (billing, coding and denials).

Responsibilities

• Assign work to clerical employees in the Health Department, specifically billing and registration staff.
• Coordinate and oversee the activities of the clerical/billing staff including training, workflow and verification of work performed.
• Collaborate with supervisors to align on priorities and support efficient clerical and billing operations.
• Type and prepare reports, correspondence and other documents.
• Prepare training materials related to billing and registration.
• Use PCs and software including EPIC, CHAMPS, NextGen.
• Assist providers and billing staff with diagnosis codes, CPT codes and modifiers.
• Create procedures for billing procedures approved by Medical Director.
