Performs all tasks involved in cleaning sewer lines, manholes, and lift stations. Responsible for the care and maintenance of all tools and equipment used in cleaning operations. Assists in assembling appropriate suction tubes and nozzles and/or high-pressure nozzles to remove unwanted grit and debris in lines. Assists in the operation of mobile equipment to clean sanitary lines and works with the Field Services Supervisor to assist Data Collection, Stop Up, Lift Station, and Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) Teams to remove blockage in lines. Employee will be required to perform on-call duties on a rotating schedule. Attend all seminars and training given by Columbus Water Works.
Minimum of one (1) year related experience and/or technical training working on sewer construction projects, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Ability to frequently lift up to 50 pounds. Valid driver’s license and good driving record. Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s Permit within six months and a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within one year of employment.
High school diploma or GED required. One-year related experience and/or technical training in sewer projects preferred. Ability to obtain certifications in Confined Space Entry, Traffic Control Set-up, and Flagging within one year.
Ability to read and understand operating instructions, safety procedures, schematic drawings. Good communication skills. Mathematical skills for basic calculations. Reasoning ability to apply instructions and remain calm under stress.
Valid Driver’s License, good driving record, CDL within one year, Flagger and OSHA-Confined Spaces certifications within one year.
Regularly required to reach with hands and arms, stand, walk, handle objects, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, and smell. Occasionally sit, climb, and balance. Frequently lift and move objects of 50 pounds. Vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
Primarily outdoors in weather conditions. Frequently near heavy equipment, moving parts, and exposed to fumes, airborne particles, electrical shock, and vibration. Noise level is usually loud.
