Job summary

Block by Block is seeking a Cleaning Ambassador in New York City to keep public spaces clean, safe, and welcoming. You will perform outdoor cleaning tasks in your assigned zone and interact with pedestrians in a friendly, helpful manner.

The role offers weekly pay, pay advances, benefits, PTO, and free uniforms. Schedule is Mon–Fri, 8:00 am–3:00 pm; great for retirees, veterans, or recent graduates seeking their first job.

Qualifications

• Duties include high-visibility street-level cleaning and public interaction.
• Must be able to greet pedestrians and provide directions or information.
• Litter removal, graffiti removal, weed pulling, and surface cleaning.
• Accurate daily reporting and basic English reading/writing required.

Responsibilities

• Carry out a wide range of cleaning tasks in the assigned zone with a positive demeanor.
• Acknowledge and engage pedestrians with friendly greetings; assist with city information.
• Remove litter, graffiti, posters, weeds; wipe down outdoor surfaces as needed.
• Report safety concerns and complete daily task reports in English.

Pay Range: $17.00 to $17.00 per hour (Weekly Pay & Pay Advance Before Pay Day!)

• Mon. – Fri. from 8:00am to 3:00pm

What You’ll Be Doing

• This role will provide a high level of visibility at the street level to carry out a wide variety of cleaning tasks in the assigned zone. Must maintain a positive, professional demeanor at all times.
• Actively acknowledge and engage pedestrians and visitors with a friendly greeting/smile in order to provide directions and/or city information.
• Litter removal — While moving through the zone with a rolling trash can that has supplies/tools, remove litter: fast food bags, cups, soda cans, cigarette butts, and other debris on the streets/sidewalks and alleys. Remove graffiti and posters from light posts, trash cans, news boxes, etc.
• Pull weeds that grow at the base of tree wells, in cracks in the sidewalks, and vacant lots.
• Damp wipe and straighten outdoor surfaces, such as trash can lids, news boxes, etc.
• Be watchful for unwanted behaviors or criminal activity and report to the Safety Ambassadors via two-way radios. Must be able to complete basic daily reports of tasks completed, which requires being proficient in speaking, reading, and writing the English language.
