Job summary

Sylvania is seeking a Paraprofessional (.6875 FTE) to assist certified staff in classrooms. This part-time role supports reading, math and other instructional activities, supervises students, and helps with IEP goals. Work is 5.5 hours per day over 174 days; compensation follows the Classified Salary Schedule.

Benefits are limited as this is a part-time position. The role emphasizes safety, confidentiality, and collaboration with teachers to enhance student learning and inclusion in classroom

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Successful completion of college level coursework or passing of examination as required by the No Child Left Behind Act.
• Prior experience working with special needs children desirable

Responsibilities

• Assist students with reading, language arts, mathematics and computer instruction.
• Work with students individually and in small groups.
• Assist professional staff with classroom exercises.
• Assist in classroom preparations and strategies for reinforcing instructional materials and skills.
• Assist with record-keeping documenting student learning and performance.
• Assist with classroom behavioral management to minimize disruptions and keep students on task.
• Supervise non-instructional areas (lunch, bus, playground, study hall).
• Accompany students on field trips for supervision.
• Create and distribute educational materials.
• Assist students with special needs in all aspects of instruction.
