Job summary

Wake County Public School System is seeking an Instructional Assistant to support classroom teachers across elementary, middle, or high school settings. The IA will assist in instruction, reinforce skills, and work with diverse learners under licensed teachers’ guidance.

The role requires collaboration, reliability, and the ability to manage materials and student needs. Employment includes adherence to school policies and ongoing professional development.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• For Title I schools, must meet ESSA requirements: six semester hours in childhood education or two years in a childhood setting.
• CPI certification may be required depending on school needs; CPI training provided by WCPSS.

Responsibilities

• Provides instructional support to teachers and assists in classroom activities.
• Collaborates with teachers to plan and organize lessons and materials.
• Demonstrates professional and technical skills to support the school program.
• Works with individual students or groups as directed by teachers or administrators.
• Participates in district staff development and ongoing professional growth.
• Maintains a positive disposition and exercises good judgment with students.
• May conduct vision and hearing screenings and enter results in the student information system.
