Job summary

Milk Education is recruiting a SEND Support Worker to support pupils with complex SEND in a Durham school. The role focuses on children and young people with Autism, ADHD and communication needs, including non-verbal pupils using alternative communication methods.

The post is available as full-time or part-time and requires patience, calmness and the ability to implement structured routines, with ongoing safeguarding checks conducted including a DBS update. Parking is available nearby.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children with complex SEND, particularly Autism/ADHD.
• Ability to use Makaton, PECS or visual supports is desirable.
• Patience, calmness and a supportive approach.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils aged 5 to 19 with complex SEND.
• Support non-verbal pupils using alternative communication methods.
• Use Makaton, PECS, visual timetables, symbols and boards to aid understanding.
• Assist in delivering Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
• Foster emotional regulation and engagement in learning.
• Collaborate with teachers, SEND staff and external professionals.
• Help maintain a structured, calm, inclusive learning environment.
