Job summary

ReNEW Schools in New York seeks a Paraprofessional Classroom (Title 1) to assist the teacher in achieving classroom objectives by working with students individually or in small groups to reinforce learning and skill development.

The position requires 2 years of college credits or a willingness to take and pass the ParaPro Test, 5.5 hours per day for 182 days, and duties including preparing materials, supervising activities, and supporting students and families as needed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to plan and organize.
• Skills in human relations.
• Ability to communicate effectively before groups of students and parents.
• Other qualifications as deemed desirable by the School Board.

Responsibilities

• Assist the teacher with diagnostic tests.
• Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning of material.
• Assist the teacher in devising strategies for reinforcing material or skills.
• Guide independent study and enrichment work set up by the teacher.
• Check notebooks, correct papers, and supervise testing and makeup work.
• Assist with group activities such as drill work, reading aloud, storytelling.
• Serve as information source for substitute teachers.
• Assist with copying and laminating student materials.
• Supervise recess or lunch duties.
• Attend monthly staff meetings.
• Participate in staff development.
