Job Details

General Summary:

Company drivers are responsible for on-time delivery of freight between Dollar General distribution centers, stores, and vendors. They haul and unload multi-stop freight to Dollar General stores, return freight as required, and rolltainers to the distribution center. They operate vehicles safely, transporting freight including interstate and intrastate deliveries.

Duties and Essential Job Functions:

1. Transport store-delivery freight, store returns, and backhauls over-the-road safely, efficiently, and timely, adhering to all policies and regulations. (40%)
2. Unload and reload freight and rolltainers at each delivery safely and efficiently, including rolling rolltainers off trailers, unloading boxes/totes, reloading return items, and securing freight. (30%)
3. Provide professional customer service to store teams, vendors, and distribution employees. (10%)
4. Complete necessary paperwork and maintain records as required by law. (10%)
5. Ensure vehicle operation complies with all laws and regulations. (10%)

Knowledge and Skills:

• Available for routine overnight travel for extended periods.
• Available to work any day of the week (Monday – Sunday).
• Physical ability to squat, crouch, reach, and handle freight, including pushing and pulling rolltainers weighing between 600-1200 pounds.
• Ability to access and manually release trailer components, install/remove tire chains, hook trailers, and secure freight.
• Ability to work in severe weather conditions and extended periods in trailers or coolers.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Valid Class A CDL.
• Six months tractor/trailer driving experience.
• Knowledge of DOT and FMCSA regulations.
• Meet all safety and medical standards required by DOT, including drug/alcohol testing.
