Job summary

Smurfit Westrock is seeking a Roll Clamp Operator to support unloading paper rolls, stacking roll stock, and loading rolls into industrial machines. The role involves both indoor and outdoor work, a fast pace, a strong safety focus, and meticulous attention to detail.

Starting pay is $22.04 per hour, rising to $24.22 per hour after ~90 days. Shifts are 1st or 2nd, Monday–Friday with overtime and occasional weekend work. Day-1 benefits include medical, dental, vision, and a company 401(k) plan.

Qualifications

• 2+ years experience operating a power industrial machine (PIT).
• Experience at a paper mill or corrugated facility preferred.
• Able to read and understand basic English.
• Experience with inventory/software systems is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Unload/load production machines, trailers, and railcars using onboard computers.
• Maintain organized workspace and perform safety inspections on trailers and docks.
• Wear required PPE and perform safety checks on equipment.
• Monitor product quality and alert supervisors to issues.
• Assist with various duties to support production.
• Operate in indoor and outdoor environments with attention to safety.

ROLL CLAMP OPERATOR

Starting Pay: $22.04/hr, once qualified (approximately 90 days) $24.22/hr

Shift: Must be flexible for either 1st 7A-3P or 2nd 3p-11p Mon - Fri some overtime and weekends as needed

The opportunity

Clamp Truck Operators play a critical role in our production process. They are responsible for unloading paper rolls from trucks and railcars, stacking roll stock, maintaining an organized workspace, and loading rolls into industrial machines. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors. The job is fast paced, requires attention to detail, and a relentless focus on safety.

How you will impact Smurfit Westrock

• Follow all safety rules and procedures and actively participate in the plant’s safety culture
• Load/unload production machines, trailers, and railcars utilizing onboard computers (Thors)
• Perform safety inspections for trailers, docks, and dock plates
• Utilize proper PPE for equipment safety checks and changing propane tanks
• Alert supervisors to product quality issues
• Maintain housekeeping and organization in the workspace
• Perform various other duties as needed

What you need to succeed

• Minimum 2 years of experience operating a power industrial machine (PIT) - prior experience at a paper mill or corrugated facility strongly preferred
• Knowledge of scanning systems
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand basic English
• Ability to read materials to understand and apply content, such as instruction manuals and procedure manuals.
• Understanding of how to read shipping tags and shipping manifests
• Able to perform basic math
• Must wear safety glasses, safety shoes, hearing protection and other safety gear as required (We will provide any necessary
• Ability sit/drive continuously with occasional walking, kneeling, crouching, squatting, bending, climbing, and grasping.
• Ability to lift up to 60 lbs.
• Ability to work in an uncontrolled temperature environment (hot or cold)
• Experience with inventory software preferred
