Job summary

Smurfit Westrock is hiring for a forklift operator at our Devens, MA facility. The role requires a minimum of 2 years operating clamp and sit-down forklifts, with preference for candidates from paper mill or corrugated environments.

You will load/unload machines, monitor safety, and support daily production with scanning system knowledge and basic English. We offer Day 1 medical, dental and vision benefits, a 401(k) with company match, and 80 hours of PTO.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Follow all safety rules and actively participate in the plant’s safety culture.
• Load/unload production machines, trailers, and railcars while meeting safety, quality, environmental, and production expectations.
• Perform safety inspections for trailers, docks, and dock plates.
• Utilize proper PPE for equipment safety checks and changing propane tanks.
• Alert supervisors to product quality issues.
• Maintain workspace housekeeping and organization.
• Perform various other duties as needed.

Pay: $25.70 /hr; 90‑day probationary period

Shift: 2nd Shift, Monday - Friday, 1 pm - 9 pm

Overtime: Must be flexible to work daily and/or weekend (Saturday) overtime as needed

Primary Job Duties

• Follow all safety rules and procedures and actively participate in the plant’s safety culture
• Load/unload production machines, trailers, and railcars while meeting safety, quality, environmental, and production expectations
• Perform safety inspections for trailers, docks, and dock plates
• Utilize proper PPE for equipment safety checks and changing propane tanks
• Alert supervisors to product quality issues
• Maintain housekeeping and organization in the workspace
• Perform various other duties as needed

What You Need To Succeed

• Minimum 2 years of experience operating a forklift (clamp forklift & sit down forklift)
• Prior experience at a paper mill or corrugated facility strongly preferred
• Knowledge of scanning systems
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand basic English
• Ability to read materials to understand and apply content, such as instruction manuals and procedure manuals.
• Understanding of how to read shipping tags and shipping manifests
• Able to perform basic math
• Must wear safety glasses, safety shoes, hearing protection and other safety gear as required (We will provide any necessary PPE.)
• Ability sit/drive continuously with occasional walking, kneeling, crouching, squatting, bending, climbing, and grasping.
• Ability to lift up to 60 lbs.
• Ability to work in an uncontrolled temperature environment (hot or cold)
• Must be willing to work any available shift
• Experience with inventory software preferred
• Must have a HSD or GED
