Job summary

Starr Insurance Companies in Philadelphia seeks a senior claims professional to lead and manage general liability claims and associated litigation. You will assess coverage issues, coordinate with TPAs, and negotiate settlements to support Starr's risk portfolio.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree and 7–10 years of GL claims or litigation experience; a JD is preferred but not required. Strong communication, organization, and travel readiness are essential.

Responsibilities

• Provide timely information to underwriters, actuaries and reinsurers.

Responsibilities

• Active oversight of claims currently managed by a Third Party Administrator as well as direct handling of an active inventory of primary and excess claims related to policies written out of the Risk Management Profit Center in various jurisdictions
• Performing prompt coverage analysis and determination, investigation into liability and defenses, and timely reserve evaluations
• Perform audits through claim systems and on-site visits
• Required to attend mediations, settlement conferences, etc. to negotiate cost-effective settlements and attend trials on an "as needed" basis
• Provide timely and meaningful information to underwriters, actuaries and reinsurers to update them regarding losses which could impact Starr’s policies

Job Requirements

• Bachelors Degree required.
• JD preferred but not required 7 - 10 years of experience in handling general liability claims and/or relevant litigation experience
• Prior experience evaluating complex coverage issues related to CGL policies
• Experience working with and managing TPAs
• Demonstrated success managing litigation, evaluating and negotiating claims, involving both property damage and bodily injury exposures
• Customer focus with excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
• Detail oriented
• High degree of personal organization and time management skills
• Pro-active. Must have a sense of urgency Ability to prioritize and perform successfully in a fast-paced environment
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
• Some travel is required and will vary depending on business needs and caseload #LI-LS1
