Job summary

Markel Group seeks a Director of Claims IT to lead the division’s technology strategy and operations across the US and UK. You will own the Claims technology roadmap, manage multi-team delivery, and partner with senior leadership to drive measurable value.

This global role requires deep claims knowledge, AI and automation expertise, governance, and strong regulatory awareness. The position is Richmond, VA-based with potential for other locations; visa sponsorship is not provided.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or related field.
Master's degree preferred.
10+ years in technology with 5+ years leading multi-team delivery.
Deep claims domain knowledge across the full claim lifecycle.
Proven track record delivering AI, ML or intelligent automation in a production setting.
Experience with Guidewire platforms and cloud migrations.
US Work Authorization required; Markel does not sponsor visas.

Responsibilities

Set and carry out a multi-year Claims technology roadmap aligned with business strategy and IT standards.
Lead dedicated delivery teams: engineering, configuration, QA, and vendor or offshore partners.
Prioritize the portfolio, define business cases and track value delivered (cycle time, LAE, leakage, adjuster capacity).
Own Guidewire ClaimCenter configuration, integrations, upgrades and cloud migration.
Oversee integrations across the claims ecosystem (payments, document management, reserving, actuarial feeds, litigation).
Coordinate with PolicyCenter and BillingCenter on policy verification and interactions.
Lead AI solutions in Claims (FNOL, OCR/IDP, summarization, SIU signals, reserving support).
Deliver workflow automation and RPA where it fits.
Work with enterprise AI, data and security teams on governance, risk, privacy and regulatory compliance.
Own application support and operations for Claims systems, including SLAs and incident management.
