Job summary

Crawford & Company is seeking an experienced Claims Adjuster to investigate, evaluate, negotiate and settle moderate difficulty claims across assigned lines of business. You will work under general supervision, set reserves, and authorize payments within your authority to support profitability.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience and 1-3 years in claims. Strong communication and independent work abilities are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required or equivalent experience.
• 1-3 years experience in claims or similar organization.
• Ability to work independently while assimilating various technical subjects.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Analysis and decision-making capabilities.
• Strong problem-solving abilities.
• Effective interpersonal skills with external sources and all levels of employees.
• Industry designations preferred: IIA, AIC, AEI, CPCU.

Responsibilities

• Receives claim assignment, confirms policy coverages and directs acknowledgement of claims.
• Interprets and makes decisions using independent judgment on moderate difficulty claims and policy coverages.
• Investigates, evaluates, negotiates and adjudicates first and third party claims to determine validity.
• Analyzes claims activity and prepares reports for clients/carriers and management.
• Establishes reserves and authorizes payments within authority; settles claims cost-effectively.
• Makes settlement decisions promptly and issues company drafts within limits.
• Develops subrogation and third party recovery potential and follows reclaim procedures.
• Participates in claim reviews with clients, carriers and management.
