Opti Staffing Group is assisting an Anchorage-based insurance organization in recruiting a detail-oriented Claims Assistant / Adjuster Trainee. This role provides administrative and technical support to the claims department and serves as front-desk receptionist, with a clear path to grow toward an adjuster role and exposure to Alaska Workers' Compensation.

The position is office-based and requires strong Microsoft Office skills, 40+ WPM typing, and exceptional attention to detail to handle

Qualifications

  • Prior experience as a claims assistant or in a comparable insurance industry role.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Typing speed of 40+ WPM with minimal errors.
  • Clear, professional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to learn state and federal reporting requirements, Alaska Workers' Compensation Act, and related legal processes.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to stay focused on detailed work for extended periods.
  • Calm, professional demeanor under tight deadlines and pressure.
  • Valid Alaska driver's license with a good driving record.
  • Ability to obtain Alaska Notary Public certification within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Set up new claims and maintain accurate electronic files in the claims system
  • Process incoming mail and scan documents, verifying that every page is captured
  • Prepare correspondence and respond to inquiries from claimants, members, medical providers, and vendors
  • Prepare and process medical bills for audit, enter bills for payment, and issue payments with complete backup documentation
  • Request medical records and manage the discovery process
  • Arrange travel for injured workers
  • Prepare insurance claim kits
  • Serve as primary receptionist, answering phones and greeting visitors with professionalism
  • Other duties as assigned

Work Environment & Physical Requirements
  • This position is 100% in office, with continual computer use
  • Occasional standing, walking, reaching, stooping, and lifting up to 25 lbs
  • Occasional travel to remote Alaska communities, including by small aircraft, sometimes in challenging weather
  • Occasional overtime may be required
  • This is a non-exempt (hourly) position
