Job Description

The Claims Assistant plays a pivotal role in supporting the legal department by managing and coordinating a variety of claims including automobile, general liability, workers’ compensation, and sewer backup. This position is essential for timely claim reporting, maintaining comprehensive documentation, coordinating with both internal and external stakeholders, and providing vital administrative support to drive claims towards resolution.

Job Description

The Claims Assistant plays a pivotal role in supporting the legal department by managing and coordinating a variety of claims including automobile, general liability, workers’ compensation, and sewer backup. This position is essential for timely claim reporting, maintaining comprehensive documentation, coordinating with both internal and external stakeholders, and providing vital administrative support to drive claims towards resolution.

Responsibilities

  • Report claims within 1–3 days to the Third-Party Administrator (TPA).
  • Maintain accurate claim files and documentation using shared drives and collaboration tools.
  • Ensure claims are properly documented and errors corrected.
  • Serve as a liaison between internal departments such as HR, Safety, and Operations, and external partners including adjusters, brokers, and vendors.
  • Respond to inquiries regarding claim status and documentation.
  • Schedule inspections, assign nurse case managers or complex adjusters, and follow up on vendor activities.
  • Organize and transfer claim-related information internally and externally.
  • File various types of claims and coordinate payment of bills.
  • Notify HR of employee work status for FMLA initiation.
  • Handle mailroom scans, vendor setup, and miscellaneous tasks.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by management.

Essential Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Experience in claims processing and data entry.
  • Knowledge of insurance and workers' compensation.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • 1-3 years of experience in insurance or claims is a plus.
  • 1-2 years of experience in claims handling is a plus.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Computer savvy and willingness to learn new systems.

Work Environment

The position is fully remote, operating Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 3 PM, totaling 30 hours a week, with the potential to progress into a 40-hour work week. Flexibility in start time is available after training.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.
