Job Description

This is a role focused on technical claim handling for Chubb insureds nationwide. In this role, you will manage complex medical liability claims, both litigated and non-litigated. You will be accountable for handling and disposition of claims, including investigation, coverage determination, reserving, negotiation, and settlement or trial strategies. Some travel is required, along with coordination with internal and external business partners. You will represent the company at meetings, mediations, arbitrations, settlement conferences, and trials.

Responsibilities
  1. Confirm coverage of claims by reviewing policies and supporting documents.
  2. Analyze coverage and communicate positions under supervision.
  3. Conduct investigations into loss facts and damages.
  4. Coordinate assessments and audits with hospital accounts to review compliance, identify trends, and evaluate exposure.
  5. Manage assignments to experts and defense counsel.
  6. Evaluate complex coverage, liability, and damages to determine insured's exposure.
  7. Set reserves within authority or recommend changes.
  8. Manage claim inventory and negotiate resolutions proactively.
  9. Manage complex files, including mass torts and batched claims.
  10. Report to reinsurers and facilitate reinsurance collection.
  11. Travel as necessary for conferences, mediations, and trials, approximately 10-25% or more depending on business needs.
Qualifications
  1. High degree of specialized and technical competence in claims handling, with hands-on file management.
  2. Ability to work independently with minimal guidance.
  3. Experience managing medical malpractice claims.
  4. Minimum of 4 years liability claims handling experience; 6+ preferred.
  5. College degree or equivalent business experience.
  6. Experience handling claims across multiple jurisdictions.
  7. Ability to learn from diverse sources and work independently.
  8. Excellent communication, negotiation, and professional interaction skills.
  9. Ability to make prompt, informed decisions on complex issues.
  10. Strong relational skills, especially under pressure.
  11. Law degree preferred but not required.
  12. Necessary licenses must be obtained and maintained.

The pay range for this role is $79,300 to $134,700, depending on skills and other factors. The role may be eligible for a discretionary annual incentive. Chubb offers a comprehensive benefits package, details of which are available on our careers website. The pay range may be adjusted based on geographic location.
