What You'll Do

As a Medical Billing and Collections Specialist at OrthoAtlanta, you’ll:

  • Review and troubleshoot medical claims for errors, edits, or issues that prevent timely billing; submit clean claims to third-party payor
  • Resolve pending claims, respond to provider inquiries, and ensure timely follow-up on unpaid accounts; monitor AR aging, daily collections, and dashboard metrics
  • Evaluate prior authorization requests, claim denials, and payment variances to determine validity and recommend appropriate resolution steps
  • Track recurring issues, identify payer-specific trends, and collaborate with leadership to improve claim outcomes
  • Review write-offs, assist with revenue cycle documentation, and contribute to billing accuracy and compliance
  • Understand the complexity of healthcare billing, coding, and payer guidelines
  • Stay highly organized and focused in a high-volume setting
  • Communicate clearly with both clinical and administrative teams
  • Take initiative to resolve challenges and escalate issues when needed
  • Thrive in a fast-paced, detail-driven environment

What You’ll Need

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must hold one or more of the following certifications: CPC, COSC, COC, CCS, or CCS-P (AAPC or AHIMA)
  • 3–5 years of hands-on medical billing and collections experience
  • Experience in orthopedic or pain management billing (preferred)
  • EPIC system experience strongly preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, complex surgical coding, and disease processes
  • Strong understanding of ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, CCI, MUE, NCDs, and modifier usage
  • Proficiency with encoders, billing software, and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent communication skills and a high level of professionalism
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple billing priorities simultaneously
