Job summary

Jobtailor seeks a senior claims attorney to analyze and resolve BSI claims, manage outside counsel, and report on exposure and recoveries. You will collaborate with underwriting on coverage issues and prepare management reports on loss development and financial exposure.

The ideal candidate will have a JD, bar licensure, 5+ years of relevant experience, strong negotiation and communication skills, and the ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of legal or claim handling experience.
• Ability to articulate coverage determinations in written and verbal form.
• Licensed to practice law in the applicable jurisdiction.
• JD required with strong legal acumen.
• Ability to travel occasionally and manage multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

• Analyze, investigate, and resolve BSI claims of varying severity with moderate supervision
• Prepare and present management reports covering loss development, financial exposure, reserve adjustments, coverage issues, and claim and recovery strategies
• Retain, monitor, and actively manage outside counsel using litigation management plans and budgets
• Communicate significant claim exposures to underwriting
• Identify recovery opportunities and coordinate recovery efforts with the Recovery Management Unit and Claim management
• Travel to and attend mediations, settlement conferences, claim conferences, field office visits, trials, and depositions
• Draft coverage opinions including relevant case law
• Negotiate settlements and resolutions and review releases and settlement agreements
• Support underwriting marketing efforts through broker and account visits, risk mitigation seminars, white papers, and articles
• Monitor marketplace conditions, conduct research, and draft reference materials on law affecting underwriting and claim decisions
• Obtain and maintain required adjusters' licenses
• Perform other duties as assigned
