• Attend mediations, depositions, and settlements
• Identify recovery opportunities and coordinate recovery efforts
• Draft coverage opinions incorporating case law
• Negotiate settlements and review releases
• Support underwriting marketing through broker visits and risk papers
• Research market conditions and applicable law affecting underwriting and claim decisions
• Provide legal advice to underwriting and non-attorney claim colleagues

Job description

• Analyze, investigate, and resolve BSI claims of varying severity under claims-management supervision
• Prepare and present management reports covering loss development, financial exposure, reserves, coverage issues, and claim/recovery strategies
• Retain, monitor, and actively manage outside counsel using litigation management plans and budgets
• Communicate with underwriting on significant claim exposures
• Attend mediations, settlement conferences, claim conferences, field office visits, trials, and depositions
• Identify recovery opportunities and coordinate recovery efforts
• Draft coverage opinions incorporating case law
• Negotiate settlements and resolutions and review releases and settlement agreements
• Support underwriting marketing efforts through broker and account visits, risk mitigation seminars, and customer-focused white papers and articles
• Research marketplace conditions and law affecting underwriting and claim decisions
• Provide legal advice to underwriting and non-attorney claim colleagues
• Participate in BSI claim strategic initiatives
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

• One to five years of relevant legal or claim handling work experience
• Ability to effectively work through conflict and resolve issues with a professional demeanor
• Ability to make sound decisions and negotiate terms and conditions within designated authority limit
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to clearly articulate coverage determinations
• Time management skills and ability to manage multiple priorities with attention to detail, data and analytics
