Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking an Engineering Intern in Saint Louis (US-MO). You will assist engineers with design tasks, data entry, documentation, and PowerPoint presentations within the Transmission & Distribution group. Candidates should have a minimum 3.0 GPA and active campus involvement.

Ideal candidates pursue Civil or Structural Engineering degrees, with ABET accreditation preferred and prior internship experience. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

• Pursuit of a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or a related field from a recognized, accredited program required.
• ABET accreditation strongly preferred.
• Prior internship and/or related consulting experience preferred.
• Actively involved in campus, community or other volunteer activities or organizations.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Transmission & Distribution

The Transmission & Distribution group is responsible for the planning and design of electrical transmission projects in power delivery, including overhead transmission, underground transmission, distribution systems, substation design, telecommunication & network engineering, pipelines, renewable power integration, security, grid modernization and more.

• Assist with tasks that may include filing, scanning, data entry, documentation and Power Point presentation.


• Assist with responses to general questions.


• Participate in continuous improvement efforts by collecting and analyzing data.


• Present solutions to concerns.


• Research solutions to project concerns; analyze and recommend solutions to problems.


• Assist with ad hoc projects as assigned by managers.


• Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.


• Involvement on campus or in the community preferred.


• Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently (i.e., without time limitations, without restrictions or without need for work sponsorship) in the country where this position is located.
