Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Southfield, MI is seeking an Engineering Intern to assist with design tasks and project support across Transmission & Distribution.

You will work on standard engineering tasks, assist lead engineers, prepare documents, and participate in data analysis and continual improvement efforts while maintaining a minimum 3.0 GPA and pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering or a related field.

Qualifications

• Pursuit of a bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering or related field from an accredited program.
• ABET accreditation strongly preferred.
• Prior internship or related consulting experience is a plus.
• Strong communication and leadership involvement on campus or in the community.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

A Brief Overview

Our Engineering Interns are responsible for performing tasks requiring the application of standard engineering techniques and procedures. This includes standard design of engineering systems, correcting and updating designs, assisting lead engineers with various project duties, and other duties as assigned. Specific assignments and project work vary depending on the market segments. Please see below for information on each market:

Transmission & Distribution

The Transmission & Distribution group is responsible for the planning and design of electrical transmission projects in power delivery, including overhead transmission, underground transmission, distribution systems, substation design, telecommunication & network engineering, pipelines, renewable power integration, security, grid modernization and more.

• Assist with tasks that may include filing, scanning, data entry, documentation and Power Point presentation.

• Assist with responses to general questions.

• Participate in continuous improvement efforts by collecting and analyzing data.

• Present solutions to concerns.

• Research solutions to project concerns; analyze and recommend solutions to problems.

• Assist with ad hoc projects as assigned by managers.

• Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.

• Involvement on campus or in the community preferred.

• Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently (i.e., without time limitations, without restrictions or without need for work sponsorship) in the country where this position is located.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Complies with all policies and standards.
