Civil Structural Engineer (With Wood Frame Design Experience)

Los Angeles, United States | Posted on 10/07/2026

Required Education: Master’s Degree (Structural Engineering)

Required Certification: Professional Engineer (P.E.) License

Firm Overview

For over 60 years, our firm has engineered some of North America’s most impactful buildings. We believe exceptional engineering starts with exceptional people—professionals who are passionate about their craft, invested in their teammates, and driven to continually learn, grow, and improve.

Our Los Angeles office offers the unique opportunity to work in a small, entrepreneurial environment while benefiting from the resources, expertise, and support of a larger, established organization. With a collaborative local team, this senior role offers meaningful exposure to all facets of the business, from design and project delivery to marketing, client relationships, and business development.

This environment is an ideal fit for someone who values autonomy, variety, and the ability to make a visible contribution to the growth of an office rather than being one part of a large corporate structure.

Position Overview

We are seeking a Senior Structural Design Engineer to join our Los Angeles team. In this role, you will work alongside experienced engineers on a diverse range of projects while developing the technical expertise, professional judgment, and leadership capabilities that will shape your career.

If you are curious, ambitious, and excited by the challenge of turning complex problems into practical solutions, we would love to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering Design: Apply creativity and technical expertise to develop structural solutions for high-profile projects.

Project & Team Leadership: Manage engineering projects, oversee team workflows, and manage project financials.

Quality Assurance: Assist with internal QA/QC design and drawing reviews to maintain technical excellence.

Client Relationships: Develop and foster key client relationships, serving as a trusted technical liaison.

Business Development: Support marketing and business development efforts to help grow the local practice.

Mentorship: Train, mentor, and guide younger engineers in their professional development.

Standards & Innovation: Assist with maintaining firm design standards and contributing to AI/automation initiatives.

Qualifications & Skills

Experience: 7+ years of structural design experience across diverse building types.

Education: Master’s degree with a specialization in structural engineering.

Licensure: Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required.

Technical Mastery: Hands-on structural design experience in post-tensioned concrete, reinforced concrete, wood, masonry, and structural steel.

Seismic Design: Strong technical understanding of seismic design principles and structural dynamics.

Codes & Standards: Working knowledge of the California Building Code (CBC) and relevant design standards (e.g., AISC, ACI, NDS).

Plans & Drawings: Proven ability to accurately read, interpret, and review complex construction drawing sets.

Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills for collaborating with clients, architects, and internal teams.

How We Work (Core Values)

Humbly Confident: You bring confidence to your work without ego. You are eager to share ideas, learn from others, and let the quality of your work speak for itself.

Passionate: You take pride in your craft, care deeply about project outcomes, and enjoy solving complex structural challenges.

Relationship-First: You build trust through consistency, respect, and follow-through, recognizing that great projects are built on strong relationships.

Own It: You take full accountability for your work, commitments, and growth—stepping up and taking initiative to see things through.

Always Hungry: You seek opportunities to learn, grow, and take on new challenges, whether tackling a new building type, mastering a skill, or stepping into leadership.

Agile in Nature: You adapt effectively to changing project priorities, remaining solution-focused with curiosity and flexibility.

What We Offer

Competitive Compensation: Market-leading salary package with annual bonus opportunities.

Professional Development: Financial assistance for continuing education, training, and maintaining professional licensure.

Work-Life Balance: Flexible work arrangements in a culture that respects personal time.

Career Advancement: A clear, performance-based path for advancement based on initiative, leadership, and contribution.
